Answer:
I traced the problem to an NVidia application "NView" which installed with the drivers for my NVidia card. After disabling NView the installation of RHEM went without a hitch.

When trying to install RHEM on my system I was getting a "Page Fault" error. The same occurred when I manually installed the RHEM directory directly. Answer: I traced the problem to an NVidia application "NView" which installed with the drivers for my NVidia card.
